The Bride: Let’s Ditch All these Common Wedding Myths

Large

Usually, when asked about their dream wedding, women almost always give the same response we’ve been hearing for centuries: “A big wedding, a white gown, a 12 story cake, and lots of flowers”. Blame it on old, outdated traditions. Thing is, a lot of wedding musts aren’t really musts at all. Nothing is set in stone and there’s no list of rules that you either follow or else have the ministry of weddings seize you. Social media plays a huge role in carving the idea of a certain type of wedding in people’s minds, as well, making people feel like everyone should have the same wedding. How boring and how bland is that?

Now, let’s breakdown some of these wedding myths

together, shall we?

1. The wedding dress has to be white:

No, it doesn’t. It doesn’t have to be big, white, and puffy if you don’t want it to be. A lot of designers have already broken the pattern by designing out-of-the-box wedding dresses in different shades and colors. If you don’t want to stray too far from what you know, you can go for nude, powder pink, ivory or champagne. Bottom line is, do away with white if it’s not your thing, woman.

2. The bridal bouquet has to be white:

Again, no, it doesn’t. In fact, you can throw the whole bouquet idea in the gutter if you feel like it. If you want to hold a gerb but not one that’s all white, play around with the colors however way you want to. No one will judge you.

3. Your fiancé won’t help you plan anything:

Seriously? It’s 2019! If you’re still stuck 50 years back, then you shouldn’t be getting married altogether. Teaming up when planning your wedding should be exciting and frightening to the both of you. You’re not doing this alone and neither is he. In fact, this is the first real, big thing that you gotta do together. Share your opinions, questions, worries, and enthusiasm.

4. Your friends’ help is more important than that of professionals:

With all due respect to your friends, professional help is WAY more important because it simply saves time and effort. If your own friends happen to be talented geniuses, then what a day! USE THEM. Friends with cool professions can save you tons of money. I mean, what are friends for? Really?

5. Wedding Planners are costly:

Here’s the thing, a wedding planner who’s good at what they do can save lives. WPs have connections, help you save time and money, organize the whole thing, know what they’re doing, and get their own discounts. Do not give in to the completely false idea that a wedding planner will cost you more.

6. You need a second opinion:

Yes, second opinions are beneficial in some cases but in others, they really aren’t. If you don’t feel like taking people’s opinions when buying the dress, choosing the venue, or organizing the wedding, then don’t. It’s that simple. Take other people’s opinions when you’re not sure of what you’re doing, other than that, go with your guts and let your instincts lead the way. Sometimes, having too many opinions at hand can cause you to freak out and panic.

7. Do it yourself, you’ll save more:

In the era of Pinterest and Youtube, DIYing your way through life has become the norm. Truth is, you don’t need to be doing that, not now. First off, you won’t necessarily save more if it’s your first time doing it, you’ll actually be spending more money if you don’t get it right the first time around. Second, whatever it is you want to do might end up looking cheap and tacky if not handled by a professional. Before you decide to do certain things yourself, make sure that you can, both, spare the time and cash.
