The Bride: 5 Things to Avoid before Your Wedding Makeup Trial

Large

As we’ve come to witness, brides start taking special care of their skin and complexion before the wedding, but there are tiny details that a lot of brides either aren’t aware of or tend to skip. These details can actually make all the difference, especially if they can help you avoid tremendous mistakes that you might regret later.

Bridal makeup, to some, is a crucial step that needs to be executed perfectly. A step that should start with knowing the products you should use and the ones that you should ditch.

Before having your wedding makeup trial, here’s how to prep yourself in order not to waste your time, money, and effort:

1. Avoid retinol

Avoid retinol-based skin products before your wedding makeup trial as they may cause irritation when there’s heavy makeup to be applied. Retinol may also make the skin dry and flaky because it exfoliates it. If your regular face cream already contains retinol, stop using it at least a month before your makeup trial.

2. Avoid eye and under-eye creams

Stop using these creams the day before your makeup trial as eye creams are usually thick and dense. Hence, they will not mix easily with your concealer and foundation, which may cause your makeup to crack and look cakey. One wedding cake’s enough, no? Haha…sorry.

3. Don’t slack with sun protection

If you’re having your wedding in the morning, then you’ll need to inform your MUA so she would use makeup products with SPF. If you’re going to dance under the sun for hours, then you’ll need the proper protection. If makeup products with SPF aren’t available, then you’ll need to base your makeup with an SPF containing face cream. The important thing is to NOT go to your makeup trial wearing sunscreen because your MUA needs a clean canvas to work with.

4. Avoid facial hair removal

It’s definitely best to remove facial hair at least 3 days before your wedding makeup trial in order to avoid any redness, irritation or inflammation. Don’t risk getting red spots or feeling like someone set your face on fire the day of your trial just because you decided to get your hair removed the night before or last-minute.

5. Avoid spray tan

Pretty sure you don’t want any weird looking streaks on your face just because you found it easier to spray tan than to sunbathe or hit the tanning salon. If you’re doing this, do it right or not at all. After all, you can always ask your MUA to give you a summer bronze glow makeup look.
