The Basic Procedures for Pre-marital Medical Checkups

Reasons why we go for medical checkups before marriage

Large

In Egypt, it is quite necessary to go and have medical checkups before marriage. At first, it was only traditional to undergo these tests to make sure both partners are healthy and fertile. However, nowadays, you cannot marry without an actual health certificate to control the spread of certain hereditary and sexually transmitted diseases.

The most important reason why these tests are actually done is to ensure the health of future offspring. People should take these tests seriously for their own sake and for the sake of lessening the possibility of any future complications that could simply be avoided with a few simple tests.

There are three basic types of tests that are done before marriage:

First are the tests done to check for any hereditary diseases like Thalassemia where a full blood picture is taken to check the hemoglobin and red blood cells count in the blood.

The second type of tests is done to check fertility levels and sexual health.

Third are blood tests that are done to check for any sexually transmitted or contagious diseases, like HIV and virus C.

When is the best time to conduct these tests?

Couples could undergo these tests at any time between their engagement and the wedding day. The sooner you get them over with, the better, in case there is anything wrong with the test results. Of course, the results may vary and it fully depends on the couple to decide how to deal with any given situation. However, the sooner you find out about any problem at hand, the faster you can treat it.

Visit your gynecologist/urologist:

The most important doctors you need to visit before marriage are gynecologists and urologists to check on your sexual health. Both of you need to tolerate these tests, especially if it’s your first time to marry. People sometimes ignore the necessity of these visits before they start getting sexually active, mostly because of their lack of knowledge.

For her:

Your visit to the gynecologist should focus on checking for any vaginal infections. In case you have an irregular menstrual cycle, you should be able to tackle the reason behind this irregularity and get it fixed.

Your doctor will also inform you regarding the different types of birth control and the best to use depending on your case and preference. Usually, your husband-to-be and yourself should be able to discuss the usage of birth control methods and decide together which to use.

You mustn’t shy away from asking your doctor for tips on the usage of lubricants, vaginal washes, or creams for your general vaginal health.  Also, you could discuss how you can handle intercourse if it’s your first time and you’re feeling anxious.

For him:

Yes, men also need to visit a certain kind of doctor to check on their sexual health, those special wizards are called urologists. The reasons are quite similar to those of women when it comes to visiting your urologist, like checking, again, for any infections. Also, your doctor will conduct examinations that aim to rummage for any lumps on your exterior sexual organs.

The doctor will also let you know about the different birth control methods you could use, including how and when to use them.  You could also discuss tips for your first sexual encounter with your future wife. Other tips could be about sanitation and general health.
