Large

You finally found the man of your dreams and you’re finally tying the knot. You couldn’t wait to break the news of the proposal to your girlfriends, right? Sharing the news with them seems like such a happy thought. They are your circle of trust and your comfort zone, so much so, that any major event taking place in your life is considered theirs as well.

Before you choose your bridesmaid dresses, you need to decide on the people who will be lucky enough to get to wear them. Choose the people who are closest to you and those whom you consider family. The ones who you want right by your side on this special night, and those who will dance their hearts out in your honor! The ones who feel happiest for you and who are there every step of the way. Your bridesmaids share your happiness and excitement as if they were their own. Choose those who lighten up your day and whom you feel free to be your complete self around.

After deciding who your bridesmaids are and after popping the question to each of them, arrange a small meeting with all of them present, to decide on the style(s), color(s), tailor(s) and cut(s) of the dresses. Now, we know you want to be in control of each and every detail of your wedding, however, for your bridesmaids’ sakes, try to be a bit flexible and give them a bit of freedom to get to choose the cut and style that best suits their figures. You, on the other hand, get to choose the [dress] color that would go with the theme of the wedding. Remember, you want them to look stunning, beautiful and feel good about themselves in their dresses.

The tailor:

Decide on the tailor that would best design and execute your dresses. Choose a tailor that is recommended by someone that you fully trust, especially in regards to taste. A good tailor has the eye and vision to help you choose the right style, color, and cut that best fits each one of your girls.  Also, pick a tailor who is professional and who you feel comfortable being around because you will be paying him/her a lot of visits.

The theme:

Before making the visit to the tailor, first, decide on the theme and color of the dresses. Let your bridesmaids know the color and the theme afterward, to choose a cut and style accordingly. Try to make your mind up before you go see the tailor, in order to avoid any confusion, chaos or unnecessary arguments.

The cut:

The cut is something that each bridesmaid should be able to decide on, herself. As for the length of the dresses, some brides prefer to unite them all. However, it would be best to leave it up to them to decide whether to go with long or short. After your bridesmaids choose their cuts, make sure they go with the theme and with the rest of the other dresses. Look for harmony most when you’re thinking this one up. We want all the girls’ dresses to sync together and that’s our main goal!

The fabric:

Choosing the fabric has to suit the theme and the season. Of course, your bridesmaids are aware of the date! And so, the fabric has to match the weather. Guiding you when choosing the fabric according to the cut and the style of the dress, is also among the tailor’s responsibilities.  Shopping for the fabric is one of the most fun things you could do with your besties. Again, try to visit the most recommended places to buy the fabric.

The color:

The color has to be dependent on the season. If it’s summer or spring, go for a lighter palette, while for winter, go for a darker one. Also, choose the color that goes with the wedding’s theme and colors. Refer to your mood board! Try to harmonize all the wedding’s colors together.

Who is paying?

Some brides offer to pay for the bridesmaid dresses. However, this is usually not the case because it obviously adds extra expenses to their long list of bills and due payments. More often than not, each bridesmaid pays for her own dress. It is also their complete choice, whether they want to purchase the dress or get it made from scratch.

Can your bridesmaids change their dresses for the wedding reception?

Have you ever noticed that at some weddings, some bridesmaids change into different dresses after the photo shoot is over? Some brides make it a rule that their bridesmaids have to change into other dresses later on during the reception.  It is recommended that you allow your bridesmaids to feel comfortable, even if it means that they get to change into something else at some point.  Remember that in the end, you want happy bridesmaids who feel good about themselves more than anything else.
