How and When to Send Your Wedding Registry List

Large

In Egypt, having a wedding registry list is quite a new tradition that is still being introduced to our culture, let alone having your own wedding website, as well. In other cultures, couples start sending out their registry list to their friends and family the moment they get engaged.

However, in our society, we often buy all the basic necessities at first and then, we make a registry list of all the things that we still need! we also start letting people know about the list approximately 2 months before the wedding. Of course, you don’t have to stick to this 2 months rule; you could send out the list as soon as you finish editing it.

Instead of shopping for gifts, many people choose to give the bride and groom cash, either before, after or on the wedding day. In fact, some couples do prefer receiving money, so they can spend it on whatever they’re falling short of. Some guests root for money instead of gifts because they probably haven’t heard of your registry list and also sometimes, it’s just the mere fact that they’d rather give you the choice to invest your money however you’d like to.

Your wedding website:

Having your own wedding website, which would also include your registry list, makes it a bit easier to send out the list to your guests without that much awkwardness. All you have to do is add a link that redirects to the list, to your website.

On the website, the caption that follows the link to the registry list should sound friendly, inviting, and not a call-to-action kind of message.  For instance, the caption could read “If you wish to get the bride and groom a wedding gift that they’d undoubtedly love, click here”.

Social media:

Creating a website will help you share your list, either on social media or via e-mail, no fuss and no hassle. If you haven’t yet created a website, we do not recommend posting the list directly on social media, since it could make you seem greedy or materialistic…you know how humans are. Not to mention that not all the friends you have on social media are invited to your wedding! Don’t complicate things! Safety first.

Your wedding invitation:

Now that you have a proper website, with your glorious registry list attached to it, you could add a link to your website to the actual wedding invitation. Never ever place the direct link to the registry list anywhere near your wedding invitation because doing so could totally backfire by simply giving people the wrong impression. Stick with etiquette on this one!

Word of mouth:

Now, this is probably the best method to follow when it’s time to start sending out those invitations. Word of Mouth is how most people of different cultures do it. Make sure that your close friends and family spread the news and that it reaches all your invitees.

Another way to do it is to make use of the moments when people are congratulating you on your wedding because that’s usually when they also pop the question and ask you about what you want for a gift. This is a great opening for you! Go ahead and let them know that you’ll be sending them a link to your registry list and don’t hesitate to ask them to share it with rest of the invitees, as well.
