Cairo’s charm is in its heritage. Whether walking in the streets downtown or in the corners of old Cairo you feel the history all around. From Azhar and Al Hussein to Salah Eldin Citadel where you get to see the whole city from above. The city back then and the city today right in front of Mohamed's eyes as he holds his bride between his arms.  Imagine this magnificent view, at the top of old Cairo, ready to start your journey together.

Once the city’s armor, the city’s beating heart for 700 years, Salah Aldin citadel holds Cairo’s heritage as it has seen countless governments and rulers over different eras.  To this day it is considered one of the most beautiful Islamic fortifications in the city and it stands to overlook several other medieval mosques in the neighborhood.

For the week's wedding feature Ghalia and Mohamed chose to travel back in time and visit the beauty of old Cairo on their wedding day. First, they got ready and headed to the Citadel before sunset for their photoshoot in the open inner courtyard in front of the mosque and at the top of the Citadel’s walls overlooking Cairo from above. The golden hour created a surreal effect for the photoshoot, where the sunrays traveled through the mashrabiya windows and columns, highlighting the beautiful Mamluk architecture of the mosque and citadel, and creating a magical historical romantic ambiance.

Ghalia looked princess-like in her mermaid cut lace embroidered beaded wedding gown with a sweetheart neckline and tulle train. She wore a delicate headpiece and a sheer long veil over her dark wavy hair. The earth color makeup palette complemented her caucasian skin. Mohamed wore a classic black tuxedo, bowtie and a white shirt to match the wedding theme.

The open inner courtyard in front of the mosque was decorated and set for the wedding ceremony at night. The mosque was dimly lighted giving a romantic sense. Like Cairo, the citadel holds a certain kind of magic when the night draws in on it. The wedding planner chose a classic, romantic theme to decorate the Sahn (ablution) and the open area where crystal chandeliers and lamps were used to light up the place. The guests’ seats were organized directly looking towards a long table placed right in front of the Sahn for Katb el Ketab. White flowers and roses were placed in vases along the lines of chairs and on top of the long table.

Goosebumps filled the chilly air of Cairo and it's stark dark skies. The bride and groom have been waiting for such a moment with anticipation and longing excited to begin their future together at last.
