8 Red Flags to Look Out for in Your Relationship

#7 doesn't have to do with you!

Relationships can be some of the most memorable and educational experiences in life. They can teach you important lessons about yourself and others. However, nobody wants to waste their time with the wrong person and get hurt. Red flags are a way to prevent this, and generally, tell if someone is meant for you or will hurt you. Here are 8 red flags that you should look out for in your next relationship.

Talking negatively about their ex

Someone constantly talking negatively about an ex-partner is a sign that they are not over their ex or cannot admit their faults. If they claim all their exes are crazy, they are usually the problem.

They do not like your friends or family

Constantly putting down the significant people in your life is a way to isolate you from your loved ones. People will do this to have more control over you. When you lack a support system, you are forced to only rely on your significant other for your needs, leaving you in a vulnerable position.

They have a history of cheating

Although people can change, a past of infidelity without any form of reflection or help is a sure-fire way to tell that someone will most likely cheat on you too. Cheating is usually not personal and reflects more on the character of the cheater than the victim. Therefore, you will not be any different than the exes they cheated on before.

Can’t stand being single

When a person constantly jumps from one relationship to another, they don’t give themselves time to reflect on past relationships, learn lessons, or change in any way. Someone who can’t be happy alone will never be happy in a relationship and may even blame you for their unhappiness.

They love-bomb you

Love bombing is when someone is excessively affectionate or kind in the early stages of a relationship. They may claim you two are soulmates, bombard you with gifts, or pressure you into settling down with them. People who love bombs will do this to get your trust early on to manipulate and control you.

Using the silent treatment when upset.

Ignoring is at best a terrible and childish thing to do to someone you care about, and at worst, a form of emotional manipulation and abuse. Not only does this elongate an argument that is easily solvable, but it also adds psychological stress to the person being ignored. It leaves you second-guessing yourself, crushes your self-esteem, and stops either of you from solving the problem.

They don’t have a strong self-identity

Someone who doesn’t know who they are or what they want will always waste your time or rely on others to tell them who they are. This usually only leads to unfulfilling relationships.

Future goals and plans don't match.

If your long-term plans don’t match theirs, the relationship is set up for failure. No matter how long you guys stay together, it will either end to keep both of you happy or have one person end up with a life they never wanted, creating resentment for the both of you.
