13 Common Bridal Makeup Mistakes You Want to Avoid

Large

Bridal makeup mistakes are quite common and frequent. Not to sound cliché but most probably your wedding day will be one of the most important days of your life. While your dress is crucial, your makeup is equally important.

Make sure that you look radiant in your wedding photos, by taking care of the following 13 common bridal makeup mistakes because photos live forever.

1) Using way too much foundation:

Years ago, before the digital revolution, brides wore heavy-handed foundation but for a very valid reason which is to look flawless in the pictures. Thankfully nowadays there is absolutely no need because the equipment and editing programs are way more advanced.  Stay away from an un-needed heavy foundation look and stick with a light long-wearing one instead.

2) Skipping body makeup:

Sometimes makeup artists fall into the mistake of not matching the bride’s face and body. For example, you can’t tan the face and leave out the rest of the body with a completely pale tone.

3) Skipping a trial:

A trial run is extremely essential for it will help you decide if this is the right makeup artist and look that you finally want to go with.

4) Trying new products:

Like we said there has to be a makeup trial 1 or 2 weeks before the wedding. Make sure you use the exact same products to avoid any skin reactions on your wedding day!

5) Ignoring the theme and place of the wedding:

Many makeup artists ignore the backdrop of the wedding. If it’s a casual beach wedding the bride cannot go with smoky black eyes and burgundy lipstick. If it’s a black-tie ceremony inside a hotel hall the bride can’t go with a too natural look.

6) Forgetting ears and chest:

Sometimes makeup artists fall into the mistake of not matching the bride’s face with her neck and chest especially in hot weather they could go a bit red from the heat.

7) Over the top contouring:

Contouring has become quite trendy in makeup nowadays. However, make sure not to overdo it because it can turn into a disaster! Sometimes people obsess about contouring that the face looks completely fake and unreal. The bride should be recognizable and not seem like a whole other person.

8) Not using waterproof mascara:

This will be one heck of an emotional night for sure and that’s why you must wear waterproof mascara to avoid an inevitable mess. It is advised that you dab and not wipe your tears with a tissue.

9) Using makeup that won’t last:

Preferably try to go with waterproof makeup altogether as much as you can for you will sweat when you dance too. You need makeup that will last all night and won’t fade away from the humidity, tears, sweat, dust, and your face’s natural oils.

10) Experimenting with something new:

It is never the right time to experiment with new looks on your wedding day! Stick to what you tried before in your trial and never risk trying something and failing right before the ceremony.

11) Not setting up your makeup:

Some artists overlook using premier which is essential in setting up the face and smoothing up the skin to make the makeup last even longer. It’s supposed to be applied on areas that get oily like the forehead, t-zone, and chin.

12) Using too much highlighter:

Using the right highlighter could be tricky yet very important. The ones that are too glittery or sparkly will focus on the highlighter and not the skin, creating a shiny greasy flush look. Whereas the suitable one will give a more natural glow.

13) Trying false lashes for the first time:

Again this is not the time to experiment with beauty looks you’ve never tried before. They could irritate your eyes and you might actually hate the way they look on you. Only use makeup to make the lashes fuller and thicker. One of the biggest bridal makeup mistakes is to try something new on your wedding day no matter what it is.
